Hi David,
Are you getting an error message when you click the icon? If yes, kindly post back with the exact error message. It would be a great help if you can also provide us a screenshot of the issue. Check this thread for the steps on how to include a screenshot in your post.
We recommend updating your Windows PC as well. The latest update as of March 14 is build number 14393.953. To check for updates, click the Start button, go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, then select Check for updates.
We're looking forward to your response.

I downloaded the suggested update and restarted the laptop. Then put it in the sleep mode. Upon waking it from sleep mode, the icon was gone. It appears this is resolved, but will let you know after a few more times. Thanks!

It's back again, and the update didn't work. When the laptop is awakened from the sleep mode, the keyboard backlight icon is on the screen.

There's a keyboard shortcut for enabling and disabling the keyboard backlight of the laptop brand that you're using. Try pressing the Fn + Space Bar keys.
Let us know what happens after pressing the said keys.

I tried that several times a while ago. Since my keyboard has no backlight, it doesn't work. So far, the only way I've been able to remove the icon is to reboot.

The problem isn't the keyboard backlight, it's the backlight icon staying on the screen. My Lenovo laptop does not have the backlight option. Whenever the computer is woken up from sleep mode, the keyboard backlight icon comes and sits stays on unless I reboot the computer. Very annoying!

Hi,
Incompatible device drivers and keyboard settings may trigger issues on the back light icon on your screen. To further address your concern regarding this icon, we suggest performing a system restore. This method allows you to revert your Windows installation to an earlier working state without affecting your files. To do so, kindly follow the steps on Restore from a system restore point section found on this article: Recovery options in Windows 10. Be advised that this will delete apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point made.
Let us know if further help is needed.
